Shawn Boles

I have over 12 years of experience as a counselor. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), licensed by the state of Missouri. I received my Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University in 2007.

My experience is extensive, working with individuals and groups in a wide variety of settings. I have experience working in community mental health centers providing outpatient therapy services, including trauma focused therapies for women and children who were survivors of abuse. I have also worked in Partial Hospitalization Programs and Intensive Outpatient Programs providing group therapy for mental health and substance abuse groups. My experience also includes working with insurance companies providing utilization management for complex mental health cases.

My clinical work and experience includes sexual abuse and trauma, posttraumatic stress, mental health, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress management, and others. I have worked with agencies such as Behavioral Health Response (BHR), COMTREA, Provident, Inc., YWCA St. Louis Regional Sexual Assault Center, and the St. Louis County Family Courts.

My Philosophy
I take an eclectic approach to counseling, and will pull from a variety of different therapeutic techniques to best help with each individuals specific needs. Each person that comes to my office is unique and individual. What works for one person, may not work for another. I work with clients to create a personalized treatment plan that fits his or her individual need. There is no “one size fits all” treatment plan in counseling.

I will challenge clients to find their strengths and use those to build successful coping skills, build the courage to make positive changes, and begin to live a more fulfilling life. I also work with my clients to identify the areas that they may need to build and strengthen.

My role is to provide my clients with support and resources, to teach new coping skills, and to provide these services in a safe and supportive environment necessary for positive change. And my goal is that each person I meet feels safe, valued, and respected so that they can progress in their treatment.
