Dr. Sean Terry
,Psy.D.
Greetings! Thank you for your interest in me.
I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling in 1996 from Marquette University, and my Psy.D. in 2004 from Adler University in Chicago. Much of my early experience was working with people with severe and persistent mental illnesses, and co-occurring substance use disorders, including working in the community and in clients’ homes. I later became more experienced in a private practice population with a wide variety of people and presenting problems. I have enjoyed working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, doing psychotherapy and psychological testing and assessment. After having such a wide variety of clinical and personal experiences, I have found myself working most frequently and effectively with adults and adolescents experiencing:
Generalized Anxiety and Depression; Social Anxiety; Academic and Phase of Life Problems; ADHD and other Neuro-Divergent issues; Vocational Stress; Procrastination; Substance Abuse and Process Addictions; Early Childhood Trauma; and, Intimate Relationship Problems, including LBTQ+ issues.
The orientations or theories that guide my practice are: The psychology of Alfred Adler (Adlerian), Cognitive-Behavioral, and Interpersonal. I believe in a Constructivist-Narrative approach, which focuses on creating cohesive personal narratives and a sense of consistency to improve emotional well-being. I earned my Cognitive Therapy Certificate from Dr. Arthur Freeman at the Adler School, and have been highly influenced by the theory and practice of Dr. Donald Meichenbaum.
I look forward to hearing from you to answer any questions and determine if we are a good fit. Thank you!
