Katherine Hawley

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with minors in Psychology, English, and Music. I had a partial scholarship for vocal performance. I finished my undergraduate degree with a 3.1 GPA. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling focused in Mental Health Counseling, which I finished with a 3.75 GPA. I also hold a Post-Graduate Certificate in Addiction Psychology, which I finished with a 3.9 GPA.

I have worked in a wide array of human service and mental health jobs. I spent 5 years working for the state department of mental health and I have been in private practice for the past 9 years. I have worked with individuals, families, and couples. I specialize in addictions, emotional/stress management, grief/loss, coping with chronic mental illness, and coping with chronic health problems – specifically chronic pain conditions. I also have a primary focus in working with emergency first responders and their families for stress management, critical incident stress debriefing and marital/family strains. I specialize in teaching patients coping and relaxation skills to improve their quality of life. I focus on mindfulness and primarily use CBT and BSFT to help my clients.

Patients must engage in therapy to make necessary changes in their lives. I believe that as people become more aware of their thoughts, actions, emotions, and beliefs, they have increased ability to face challenges and overcome difficult situations more successfully. With this understanding, positive change and growth happens.
