Brett Maletic
,BSW, MSW, RSW
First and foremost, my job is to provide competent support to people who are in need of meaningful direction and clarity. I work diligently from the bedrock of people's core selves, and for this reason I think it's important to really listen to the personal stories and the narratives that individuals carry around with them. These are often the programmed scripts and schemas that we don't realize have actually replaced and stalemated our greater potential and, because of this, they deserve to be properly examined.
Existential crisis and spiritual disorientation are also areas that I feel personally passionate about, and I work hard to help others explore these arenas while facilitating a safe space for my clients to process the many questions, doubts and anxieties that often come up in this kind of work.
I also take a great interest in anxiety and depression, and have a considerable amount of experience working with individuals who are struggling in these areas. I find that this is particularly important in our current age, as more and more people are trying to navigate the ever-shifting pandemic culture that we are living in. At the same time, however, I think it's important to point out that uncertain times such as this actually carry with them the amazing opportunity to foster regrowth in the human spirit - both individually and collectively. As such, my hope is to help people to actually use the current coronavirus era as an unexpected catalyst for meaningful reflection and improvement in their lives.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic perspectives in my practice, not the least of which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Logotherapy. I am especially drawn to the latter perspective along with the pioneering work of Dr. Viktor Frankl himself who famously said "when we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves."
I have a Masters Degree in Social Work from Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of the Fraser Valley. I am a Registered Social Worker with the BC College of Social Workers, and I espouse a doctrine of practice that is rooted in acknowledging the whole person, along with taking a careful view of their wider surroundings and circumstances. I offer in-person therapy, along with remote / virtual and telephone.

"The process requires a little more effort than your average therapy program. I think, because of that, I’m getting more out of it. Additionally, Brett has been great to work with. I never feel as though he’s trying to fix me or my problems, but rather work through my feelings and how to approach my response to them."

"We had to wait a week for our first appointment but once therapy started my son liked his therapist and found him very kind and responsive. Customer service is by email and takes a day or two but is responsive. Good value and quality."

"The work sheets are a great way to get started but aren't catered to all specific needs...but they do give your counselor a great base line to go with so it works out!"

"The structure of the therapy sections and workbooks is sound. There's plenty to be gained from them. What sets this site apart and makes it so beneficial is my therapist. Maybe I got lucky from the start, or maybe they're all as great as Brett. At this time I'm doing messaging only, but his care, guidance and support are welcome in my life."

"I have utilized many different resources available for anger management and this has so far been the best. The workbooks are very helpful tools and to have the therapist comment on my answers to the questions really creates an efficient system of getting to the root of things and the convenient access makes it easy to commit to."
