I have worked in the area of early childhood education. I have a Masters in education earned from the University of Pittsburgh. I have a masters in Counseling from the University of North Carolina.
My work experience was in the area of Early Intervention from graduation from my master's in education program in the late 90s till I returned to graduate school for counseling in 2006. Started with the field of Early Intervention. This area works with children from birth to age 3 who were born with a medical diagnosis that was believed to have an impact on their development. This includes common and rare congenital defects as well as infants born prematurely or with risk factors suspected to affect development. This work entailed assessment of the areas of delayed development, coordinated care and weekly interventions in the home. Children and families were worked with from the time of referral until age three. This experience was where I first came to learn about grief. From there I pursued counseling first as a response to the grief I saw. In the counseling program I did internships at a residential treatment facility for teens. I also did an internship at Catholic social services where I worked with adults. After graduation I worked for a community-home based therapy provider and the treatment facility until I obtained licensure. After licensure I worked in private practice and contracted for other therapists. I work with adults in individual therapy. My approach is CBT and REBT.
